How can we efficiently and quickly make the most recently developed cutting-edge medical technologies and treatments accessible to people to enable them live healthier and longer lives? How can we further develop the presently available treatments and return them to basic research to make them more effective? The response to each of these questions is 'Translational Medicine' or 'Translational Research'. Translational medicine has become an internationally acknowledged, appealing area of medicine that comprises of translating the science from a laboratory bench to a hospital bedside. A significant part of translational medicine is centered around novel drug therapies. Translational medicine primarily enables us to conduct the best possible in vitro, animal and human studies to be able to treat common human diseases. People working in translational medicine design a number of pathways to help identify and test treatments that may be the most effective in humans.


It is the progression of a new idea that transforms into a new treatment in order to enhance our health and cope with illnesses. This field of medicine has been acknowledged the world over due to the role that it plays in making new treatments available faster to the general public. Translational medicine typically includes a number of scientific disciplines such as, genomics, proteomics, intellectual property rights (IPR), research funding, regulations and clinical study designs etc. This field of study seeks to equip professionals with the expertise & skills to carry out research related to the pharmaceutical & biomedical sector.


The Advanced PG Diploma in Translational Medicine conducted by the James Lind Institute is a comprehensive program that trains you to become a translational medicine professional.

Program duration


Self Paced 6 - 8 months (Maximum duration 24 months)

All individuals participating in the program Advanced PG Diploma in Translational Medicine (APGDTM) are required to invest about 15 hours every week in their online studies.


Program Assessment


Participants are assessed via an ongoing evaluation approach by the faculty. There is no single final completion exam. Participants are assessed based on the following:

Completion of online Multiple Choice Question tests for every lesson studied and ongoing submission of project work for each module.



The minimum eligibility criteria for the Advanced PG Diploma in Translational Medicine (APGDTM) would include either of the following:

  • Any degree in Bioscience/Life Sciences such as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology etc

  • Any degree in Medicine such as MBBS, BDS, DDS, BPT, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS etc

  • Any degree in Pharmacy / Pharmaceutical Sciences

  • Any degree in Chemistry / Biostatistics / Bioinformatics

  • Any degree in Nursing / Allied Health.

  • Students in their final year of graduation for the above courses may also apply.

Program Support


Each participant enrolled in APGDTM is in close contact with a mentor throughout the program. The mentor is an industry expert working in a senior leadership position. The mentor can be approached at any time via email or phone. Participants can also communicate with peers and faculty via their study accounts to discuss any topic or question.
